Brad Harmon the founder of The Christian Entrepreneur on Famous Bloggers

Brad Harmon is one of the good guys that really have our respect; he is a very helpful, active and you say as much as you can about a great man. We know him from the The Christian Entrepreneur blog. Brad write amazing articles will definitely help you on growing your small business, your home based business, or your network marketing (MLM) opportunity using proven, practical, and Biblical financial principles applied to social media, entrepreneurship, and the workplace. Let’s get a cup of coffee and enjoy the read of his interesting interview on our Famous Bloggers Club.

Q. Tell the world something about yourself and what you do in life?

Brad: It’s interesting how life works out, isn’t it?  I started out my college education at Baylor University with the goal of becoming a youth pastor, and I ended up with a degree in accounting from Texas A&M University.  There’s quite a story there, but for another day though.

I spent the next decade working my way up the corporate ladder.  I became a Certified Public Accountant, and served as the controller for several small and mid-sized companies.  No matter how much “success” I attained, I just wasn’t satisfied with working for someone else.

In what Michael Gerber calls an “entrepreneurial seizure,” the desire to hang out my own shingle became so intense that one day I just did it.  I started my own CPA firm with the intent of helping small business owners get true value from their accounting services.

What I discovered from my CPA firm was that there is a much deeper need for small business owners than just how to file their taxes or read their financial reports.  After a lot of prayerful consideration, I decided to shut down my CPA firm to become a small business coach.

It wasn’t just about helping them with running their business, but helping them grow their business using Christ-centered financial principles.  I saw too many Christians struggling with successfully bringing their faith into their business.

Q. What was the story behind your Blog?

Brad: I created my blog to help them, and others like them, start a dialogue about what it really means to be a Christian entrepreneur.  The Bible mentions money over 800 times, both directly and indirectly, yet we often ignore it altogether as we run our businesses.

With this wealth of information at its disposal, the church has done a poor job equipping Christians to bring their faith into the workplace.  It’s kind of like many network marketing (mlm) companies that I’ve seen.

These companies put inexperienced sales people into weekly meetings designed to inspire and motivate them, but then turn them loose on their friends, families, and co-workers without the necessary skills or training.  The results are generally disastrous.

My hope is that The Christian Entrepreneur will provide some of the missing training, or at least get Christians who run their own businesses to think about being a Christian entrepreneur as more than slapping a Jesus fish logo on their business cards.

Don’t worry.  The purpose of this site is not to try to convert anyone, but maybe it will serve as an eye-opener into how one Christian sees our role in the workplace and the world.  The heavy dose, editorial style posts are clearly marked if you are afraid of a little religion. ;)

Q. Have you earned any money from been a Blogger?

Brad: The Christian Entrepreneur is a for-profit venture that indirectly supports my business coaching services and speaking engagements, but is meant to be about so much more than myself.  My hope is that it will grow into a blogazine with many different contributors.

I’ve only started to monetize it over the past couple of weeks; however, I am very encouraged by the results so far.  The blog just celebrated its two month anniversary last week, and has already made money through Google AdSense and affiliate programs.

Q. Would you tell us about ONE of your famous posts?

Brad: There are several posts that I’d love to talk about, but if I am forced to choose one then it would have to be Should Christians Bring Their Religion to the Workplace? This post really speaks to the heart of my blog; that is, blending our faith with where we spend most of our waking hours in a way that adds both temporal and eternal value to our small businesses.

It’s my most viewed, most commented, and most re-tweeted post to date.  It has even been translated into Dutch and reposted on one of my reader’s blog.  I guess you can call that a famous post.

Q. If I asked you to suggest ONE Blogger friend to send him/her a Famous Blogger Club invitation, who you will suggest?

Brad: Wow, this is even harder than narrowing down the one post from the previous question.  There are so many great bloggers in my blog community.  Luckily, quite a few have already been inducted into the Famous Blogger Club.

I would like to recommend someone I’ve recently met online, Rod Kirby of The Success Center.  He shares the same vision as mine, but has an interesting approach in achieving it.  He is extremely active in networking through social media and traditional offline methods, and he writes some great blog posts.

  10. I’ve know Brad for two months now and it’s honestly been a pleasure having his company in and around blogengage community. He brings positive discussions and has brought so much attention to our blogging community.

This was a nice interview for me I got to meet the man behind the blogengage account it was very unique. I never knew about his charted accountant activities and leaving the firm to become an entrepreneur. It’s very inspiring for young and upcoming bloggers to know.

Much respect goes out to you Brad and I must say I loved your saying and please allow me to quote, “With this wealth of information at its disposal, the church has done a poor job equipping Christians to bring their faith into the workplace.” I thought that was great and really a true point of view and sadly a fact.

I also find this about the education system it’s a shame but it’s not what were are here to talk about. That could be a whole other discussion lol.

    Nice interview hesham.

    Thanks,

Brad really has a great way with words and people – and I imagine that his initial success will go from strength to strength. Another nice one Hesham – Rod Kirby’s site also looks good from a first quick visit by the way.
