Doug Dillard of Making Money Online at Famous Bloggers Club Interview

I think it’s a good idea to get a partner for your Online Business, I knew that from Doug Dillard “I get to hangout with my friends and make money at the same time, which isn’t a bad thing at all”, enjoy the nice interview with Doug of Making Money Online.

Q. Tell the world something about your self and what you do in life?

Doug: My name is Doug Dillard and I am married with 3 children; a daughter who’s just starting college, and two wild and crazy (and wonderful) boys who are 9 and 6. I have been married to my wife Christine for 13 years, who is better looking today than when we got married (and she was a 10 back then), and the sweetest girl you will ever meet. So that being said, I am one lucky guy.

As for work, I would call myself an Internet Entrepreneur. I run several online businesses with my business partner Mark, and a few different blogs. I also bartend 2 nights a week at a local brewery which I would call my relaxing time. I get to hangout with my friends and make money at the same time, which isn’t a bad thing at all.

Q. What was the story behind your Blog? (how you start Blogging – since when – how did you named your Blog).

Doug: Back in the early 2000’s I actually created a really nice looking website for MakingMoneyOnline.com and started adding some very good content. I remember building a newsletter subscriber list of over 500 in just a couple of months. At the same time, I starting several other online ventures that were doing pretty well, and making me money without much work after they were built. On the flip side to those easy to maintain sites, MakingMoneyOnline.com actually took a lot of work to update, as there were no blog or content management software back then. So I quickly lost interest in updating it. Eventually I just took the site down and redirected the URL to whatever business I was promoting at the time, which worked well because it got quite a bit of type-in traffic. But all during those times I ALWAYS had in the back of my mind that I was going to build a site for it one day.

So we fast forward to the middle of 2009.  After many years of making money online trying anything and everything, I decided it was time to build a blog for

MakingMoneyOnline.com and share many of the things I have learned over the years, as well as the new things I learn each day. Hopefully we can not only make the site informative, but fun and entertaining at the same time.

Q. Have you earned any money from been a Blogger? (How you did it – add links to useful websites for making money online – If NOT then tell us why you blog)

Doug: I have definitely made money from being a Blogger. This site in particular has not made a lot of money yet, as it is barely 2 months old. We did have one exceptional day where we made almost $140 that day from a combination of 1 product sale, 2 affiliate sales and some Adsense earnings. That was gratifying!

What I would like inspiring bloggers who want to make money with their blog to understand is… the money is really not in just blogging. You can write terrific posts all day long and get a ton of people coming to read your blog, but if all you have on your site is a bunch of Adsense ads and banners up, you will NEVER make a lot of money.

The best way to make money with your blog is to use it as the centerpiece to your online business empire, where people come to read what you have to say, and then are taken away to wherever you are guiding them to with your words… where you hopefully will earn some money. I know this might sound overwhelming to most, but EVERYONE starts with 1 website at a time, just like you, and the successful ones slowly build their empire.

Q. Would you tell us about ONE of your famous posts? (Why you think it’s famous.. it could be because of “content – traffic – comments – search engines”)

Doug: Famous posts? Hmmm… I am not sure if I have any famous posts yet, as I mentioned, the site is only 2 months old. But if you want me to go by post popularity, I would say one of my most popular posts would be “I Use To Be A Dotcom Millionaires – At Least on Paper”. It’s the story of how I started in the Internet business back in the late 90’s… which is much different than it is today.

Q. If I asked you to suggest ONE Blogger friend to send him/her a Famous Blogger Club invitation, who you will suggest?

Doug: One of my favorite bloggers is not really in the same niche as me, but I love the way he writes and how he has branded himself. That would be John from www.ExtremeJohn.com. He is not only a great blogger, he is a very successful offline entrepreneur as well.

  2. I’ve known Doug a few weeks now and it’s been a great learning experience reading his blog articles. We sent many e-mails back and forth with in depth marketing discussions. I think he’s got great potential with his blog to do well and most likely will.

He’s determined, dedicated and very open to learning as he goes.

I happy to have him as a member over at blogengage he’s a valid part of our community. Ironically enough Doug was the one I mentioned in my interview for the final question.

  3. Nice interview. I know Doug doesn’t like to brag too much about himself, so it was nice to have questions he couldn’t dodge. I like the fact that most bloggers start off reading everything out there within their niche, and slowly develop relationships with other bloggers. Doug has been doing this for a long time, and it shows.
I am somewhat new to this and I have to work a lot harder to build those relationships.
I like to read the posts/comments from my favorite famous bloggers like Sire, Extreme John, Asswass, Brian from blogengage, etc. because they take the time to have something worthwhile to say. Nice post just doesn’t cut it for me. I have a habit of writing long comments, but that is just how I am. I am the same way in person (I always have something to say, and sometimes it is even entertaining.)
Interviews like this one just opens the door a little wider so we can meet our blogging friends and find out more about them. Adding video can add another dimension, as I found out when I went to Sire’s site and died laughing from his Icebreaker video.

Thanks for the interview with Doug, I hope you all get to know him better. He is a great guy with a lot to share.
