Erica Mueller on Famous Bloggers interviews
Erica Mueller is the newest member of our Famous Bloggers Club, she describes herself as a Wordpress lover and manipulator, freelance writer, blogger, and a social media enthusiast. I like to quote this from her blog about page “I was raised on a computer.”, that’s so funny! And of course there is a reason that she says so, Check out Erica Mueller’s blog to know more about her, and enjoy the read of our interesting interview with her, find out why she stop concentrating on blogging for Making Money Online!
Q. Tell the world something about yourself and what you do in life?
Erica: I’m a working wife and mom who’s proud to be able to stay at home and spend the day with my son while continuing to do what I love… Design! My specialty is Wordpress theme modification, but I also enjoy some graphic design for both web and print and information on these services can be found on TechnoMomDesigns.com. I also enjoy digital photography, and music and I blog about these things as well as offering blogging, networking, and Wordpress advice on my blog, EricaSays.com
You can find me on Twitter: @ericamueller and Facebook
Q. What was the story behind your Blog? (How you started Blogging – since when – how did you named your Blog).
Erica: originally started blogging as a means to keep in touch with family after getting married and moving half-way across the country in 2005. Since then I’ve switched things up from a personal and homemaker type blog, to focusing on the needs of my web clients by offering advice and how-to articles. Both my business and my blog have grown since the switch and I finally feel I’ve found my niche. I’ve been a geek since I was a kid, and I’m finding it make sense for me to write about topics I love. Before landing on EricaSays.com I went thru a few names and domains, but none that I have liked as much as EricaSays.com. I feel this name helps to keep the site’s atmosphere warm and inviting, while still conveying that I’m here to offer advice.
Q. Have you earned any money from been a Blogger? (How you did it – add links to useful websites for making money online – If NOT then tell us why you blog)
Erica: Making money from my blog used to be my focus, and you know what? I didn’t make a cent. I dwelt on it too much and I tried too hard. I got burnt out to tell you the truth. I quit blogging to focus on my web services business and found myself a much happier person. It was then I realized that I missed the networking I’d had when I was blogging regularly. I also discovered many of my web clients were asking the same questions over and over and I needed a place to answer them, and provide the answers to future clients as well. I combined my desire for networking and the need to publish information for beginner bloggers to launch what is now known as EricaSays.com. Do I make money from blogger? No, not directly. However, blogging has helped me to connect, gain respect, and consequently, brought new clients to TechnoMomDesigns.com. I’d call that a win!
Q. Would you tell us about ONE of your famous posts? (Why you think it’s famous.. it could be because of “content – traffic – comments – search engines”)
Erica: While it didn’t receive many comments, The New Face of Facebook – News Feed vs. Live Feed was VERY popular the weeks following Facebook’s changes to its user’s home page feeds. I think the success of the post was due partly to the timely sharing of the content. Within days my post was indexed by Facebook, so when people were searching Facebook for information on the changes, I was one of the top 3 results for information.
Q .If I asked you to suggest ONE Blogger friend to send him/her a Famous Blogger Club invitation, who you will suggest?
Erica: My friend, Courtney Valesquez (Twitter: @theappleofmyeye) of GiftfullySimple.com and TheDigitalMommy.com. This girl does way more than blog at her own sites; she’s a social media enthusiast and her passion for networking has landed her some amazing partnerships with some really exciting companies and networks.

Hello! .. My name is
Hey Erica! Welcome to the club.
Your blog name is fabulous. I can just hear people saying, “Well Erica says …”
I love it when women are confident enough to be proud of being a stay-at-home mom. Owning my own businesses and operating from my home gives me the opportunity to be a stay-at-home dad, and I love it! I missed way too many moments of my son’s first couple of years, but I don’t miss anything now. It’s better than any amount of money I could make.
I wish you all the best with your blog.

@Brad Harmon,
Brad, thanks for the kind words.
Yes, being able to stay home is a huge blessing. I’m happy to see people start taking notice of those who choose to stay home. For so long people viewed us as lazy or possibly unable to make it in the corporate world. They couldn’t understand why we would CHOOSE to stay home, or how we could successfully earn an income while still being effective parents and spouses. haha
Have I seen you on ProBlogger.com too???

Erica,
I think the photos are superb and I love your domain name.
I like the fact you say “However, blogging has helped me to connect, gain respect, and consequently, brought new clients to TechnoMomDesigns.com. I’d call that a win!”
That is definitely a win. You’ve actually gained a lot more than just income.

@Andrew @ webuildyourblog.com,
Thanks, Andrew. I do feel like a lucky woman.
The internet has been good to me. haha
Really tho, I have gained numerous friendships, clients, and business partnerships/deals I otherwise would have missed had I remained focused on blogging for cash. Overall, I am very happy with where I am.
Always grateful for the Twitter12 group too!!

It’s good to see a mummy and wife, taking time away from the kids to blog and run a web design business at home. Do you handle all the responsibilities or you also outsource some of the tasks Erika? I notice most bloggers are web designers as well. I offer web design services, however I outsource everything (Elance is my pillar) as I’m not a web designer by profession, though I’m able to offer insight into what works,

@Muzi Mohale,
I don’t normally outsourse, and when I do, it’s only because it’s something I can’t handle. In that case, I outsource to my husband who is a professional web developer.
It works out great!!

@chandan,
Thanks, Chandan. It is a balancing act to be sure! I try to make being a wife and mother my first priority, and let my blogging/design work come after that. I think when our priorities are straight, things work out on their own.

Another nice interview – and I really liked Erica’s comment about the indirect benefits of her blog to her.

@Will McCulloch,
Will,
It’s amazing how letting go of the need to make money from my blog has freed up my time to do what I really love. I’m a firm believer that unless you have a product of your own to sell, whether it’s an ebook, physical product, or service, making money from your blog will be very difficult. We are naturally more passionate about our own products and creations that we are about someone else’. I believe this shows in our ’sales copy.’
Thanks for stopping by my blog! See you at Blog Engage!

@Shabnam Sultan,
Sultan,
Thanks for stopping by my blog. I really appreciated your thoughts on why people fail at blogging. Blog Engage seems like a really good place. I’m a member, but haven’t found time to really reap the benefits, or contribute much. I’m looking forward to adding it to my scheduled time for networking and I’ll be looking you up!

Nice interview, and some good questions that make a change from the usual.
It is interesting how the moment you lose that “I must make money from my blog” mindset, that you actually start to make some money! Weird but very true!

@Mike CJ,
It seems like such an oxymoron to stop trying to make money so you’ll make money. haha But, you’re right, it works. When you’re focusing on creating useful content instead of focusing on making money, somehow, people take notice of your content and then they come back for more…
