Interview with Yan Susanto founder of thou shall blog – Famous Bloggers Club

It was an exciting moment for me when I first contact Yan Susanto and asked for an interview with him, Yan is a blog consultant, full-time Blogger and internet marketer who make a living writing on a wide variety of topics for the search engines. Find useful posts on Yan’s blog at thou shall blog. You are going to enjoy this interview as Yan is really great person to learn from.

Q. Tell the world something about your self and what you do in life?

Yan: I’m a full-time Blogger, writer and infopreneur who makes a living writing for search engines. No, I’m not working for Google… ;) You know what? It’s usually pretty awkward for me when someone does ask what I do for a living. Well, this is what I do – I write and I write for search engines.

And surely I love what I’m doing.

Q. What was the story behind your Blog? (how you start Blogging – since when – how did you named your Blog).

Yan: The year was 2008 (the beginning) when Blogging was such a big deal. But not till I discovered WordPress as a fantastic Blogging platform did it give me a passport to Blogging.  As my interest in WP grew, so did my passion in Blogging. So it was more of a natural progression to start a blog and sharing what I’ve learned.

thou shall blog” was chosen simply for the reason that (I think) anyone should have a blog, regardless of age, gender or comfort level.

Why? Because Blogging is a fantastic platform for you to discover who you are and what you’re capable of. You can have instant recognition, your own little success, your own fans in an otherwise obscure world offline. Don’t you agree?

Q. Have you earned any money from been a Blogger? (How you did it – add links to useful websites for making money online – If NOT then tell us why you blog)

Yan: Let me just say Blogging is great way to meet people, to connect, to become “famous”. It makes the world smaller at the click of a button but Blogging isn’t necessarily the best way to make money.

Don’t come and tell me John Chow makes money Blogging. Yes, he does but there will NOT be another John Chow, for God’ sake. With all due respect, he’s smart enough to leverage on his notoriety and build a portfolio of thousands of emails. His profit from one email marketing campaign is equivalent to what most blogers makes in a year. Go figure!

That being said, I make my money writing for search engines and NOT Blogging. Just like everyone else, albeit with a varying degree of success.

I own hundreds of mini-sites that generate passive income while I sleep. That’s pretty much what I can say at this moment!

Q.Would you tell us about ONE of your famous posts? (Why you think it’s famous.. it could be because of “content – traffic – comments – search engines”)

Yan: Read: A-Z Blogging guide for beginners and you tell me if it’s famous.

Q. If I asked you to suggest ONE Blogger friend to send him/her a Famous Blogger Club invitation, who you will suggest?

Yan: Probably, Michael Dunlop from Income Diary. Let’s catch him unaware and he’ll love it! This kid is wonderfully smart! Enough said……

  3. Good interview. I consider Yan a good friend and respect his online accomplishments but most of all I like his willingness to help others.

@Yan Thanks for the honesty on ‘make money blogging’ statement. I’ve heard you say it before and it’s very true. Blogging can certainly benefit our online businesses but just to make money is the wrong reason to blog.
